Going Green is So Much Fun!
Friday, the 13th was a very lucky day, uh ... green day at Castlen! Students began the process of planting vegetables, herbs, and flowers in the newly installed raised beds in the outdoor learning center. Under the supervision of media specialist Joan Barger, teachers and the principal, students chose from multiple flats of tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, zucchini, banana peppers, marigolds, oregano, stevia, basil, mint, rosemary, and onions to fill their planting beds. Thanks go to Keep Mobile Beautiful and Lowes for providing funds and supplies for the gardening project. These raised beds are just the beginning of things to come as Castlen goes back to the origins of the Grand Bay community to connect past, present and future to the academic world.
