Busy Little Bees Buzzing In Outdoor Classroom
Sunday, September 13, 2009

Students are as busy as bees weeding, planting, observing, and collecting data as they take advantage of Castlen's newest learning resource, the outdoor classroom. Not only alive with students, the outdoor classroom is  also alive with a variety of plants, insects, and shy reptiles observed only in the early morning.

Students have been particularly interested in the bog garden, home to carnivorous plants.  Thanks go to Lloyd Scott of the Environmental Learning Center for sharing bog plant specimens with Castlen.  Mr. Scott, Dr. Judy Stout, Jud Martin, and Mrs. Adams spent a very warm July morning digging these little "monsters" from the bog at the Environmental Learning Center. Thank you for your labors! The pitcher plants and sundew plants are thriving. There is no shortage of insects to feed them!
